So off the mount, I can walk backwards, the bindings I use are the default with S or Down The "beetle angle" as we call it is specifically the angle between the direction the beetle is facing and the direction the beetle is moving. These two vectors can be separated while drifting and only while drifting. Essentially what it means is that we're driving sideways but like halfway sideways. Mount work as an extension of player character and also have special features that you need in certain maps to access area that you will have trouble or can not reach without mount (Jackal can use Sand portals to access places which is otherwise closed; Beetle can open passage through knocking down special doors etc). The Beetle was a surprise to many. We got a new mount so soon and it seemed just for fun purposes mostly. This leads me to believe they are developing more mounts and not only skins for mounts. Unlike the beetle an underwater mount seems much more useful and from glimpses in trailers that anet has released, underwater content seems possible. I get it, not saying just unlock mastery, but doing achievements to unlock a mount we already have unlocked is silly. Tl;dr: Skyscale is a GREAT all in 1 mount for 1 mount users. It can do everything, very slowly and is very casual friendly. But if you master the Springer Griffon and Beetle, you can travel at 500 mph anywhere you want with a few seconds of prep at 2-3x the speed! 😄. And it lets you have fun while enjoying some of the MOST unique mounts of gw2! You need to play a hundred more years to unlock mounts! Anyway, you get some from doing the PoF story (like 3 or 4). The rest through achievements. But you need to complete a certain amount of the story to unlock those achievements in the first place.
